Kiwi consumption linked to improved sleep quality

A study published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that consuming two green kiwis one hour before bedtime may improve sleep quality. The four-week study involving 24 adults found that participants who added the fruit to their nightly routine experienced a 35 percent reduction in sleep onset time and a 13 percent increase in total sleep duration.

Additionally, subjective assessments of sleep quality improved, and time spent awake after falling asleep decreased by approximately 29 percent. Researchers suggest these benefits may be linked to the presence of serotonin and antioxidants in kiwis. Serotonin serves as a precursor to melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles.
