ABA League and EuroLeague prepare for new basketball seasons
The upcoming basketball season faces significant developments across regional and European leagues. In the ABA League, a crisis has emerged as five clubs—Crvena zvezda, Mega, Igokea, Krka, and Zadar—issued a joint statement accusing the league leadership of failing to address the material and legal status of referees. The clubs demand transparency regarding referee salaries and benefits.
In the EuroLeague, the new season begins with 20 teams, including Serbian clubs Partizan and Crvena zvezda. Partizan has undergone extensive roster changes, while Crvena zvezda has retained its core under new coach Ibbon Navar. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos enters the competition under coach Željko Obradović but faces early injury challenges.
Regional club news includes Budućnost Voli hosting its traditional ‘Blue Night’ to present its roster, supported by Montenegrin government officials. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, OKK Sloboda has set ambitious goals to reach the semifinals of the national championship, Cup, and ABA 2 league. Additionally, the ABA League will feature two Montenegrin teams, Budućnost Voli and SC Derbi, in a format featuring 20 teams.
