ABA League begins 26th season with 20 clubs

Overview

The ABA League has commenced its 26th season, continuing a trend of record participation with 20 clubs organized into two groups of ten. This follows previous delays caused by disputes regarding the ‘material and legal status of referees’. Notable roster changes for the current season include the return of Cibona and Široki Brijeg, while Split has departed the league.

Early results include a 77:72 victory for Budućnost Volija over Krka, a win coach Andrej Žakelj noted was vital given the dense schedule. Igokea also opened with a 97:89 win against Slovan Bratislava, with coach Nenad Stefanović highlighting the competitive nature of the new league members. In other matches, Bosna secured a 95:79 win against Spartak.

In the ABA 2 league, the competition structure remains modified following the withdrawal of KK Skoplje; GGD Šentjur was moved from Group B to Group A to ensure all four groups contain four teams.

Regional preparations continue as FMP readies for a matchup against Crvena zvezda, with coach Saša Nikitović emphasizing the peak performance required to face the EuroLeague side. Additionally, Partizan is scheduled to play Mega in a match held without spectators due to sanctions stemming from the previous season.
