KKE demands immediate measures for student housing in Greece

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) is demanding immediate government intervention to address the student housing crisis. The party noted that current student dormitories cover only 7% of the actual need, with a government target to reach 15% by 2030.

KKE criticized the government's plan to provide 8,609 new dormitory places through Public-Private Partnerships (SDIT), arguing that this approach treats student housing as a profit-making opportunity for business groups rather than a public responsibility. The party called for a comprehensive program to construct modern, safe, and free public dormitories funded exclusively by the state.

To alleviate the financial burden on students and their families, the KKE is calling for a significant increase in housing allowances, the repurposing of suitable public buildings for student use, and measures to control high rental prices.
