KLA leaders face verdict in The Hague war crimes trial FAST-MOVING

The Kosovo Specialised Chambers in The Hague are set to deliver a first-instance verdict on September 16 regarding four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA): Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi. The defendants face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, and persecution. The prosecution has requested prison sentences of up to 45 years for each individual.

In anticipation of the ruling, Dutch police have intensified security measures around the court building, restricting public presence in the immediate vicinity. The trial, which has spanned over three years, involved testimony from 134 witnesses and the participation of 156 victims. The defense has maintained that the KLA was a decentralized guerrilla force and has denied the allegations.
