Klaipėda District road works delayed by illegal sewage connections

Lithuanian Transport Minister Juras Taminskas and Via Lietuva CEO Martynas Gedaminskas visited the Klaipėda District Municipality to address delays in road reconstruction projects on Ežero and Rasytė streets.

Construction has been halted due to the discovery of hundreds of illegal rainwater sewage pipe connections within the road trench. This issue has necessitated a formal project correction, as the original design did not account for these unauthorized connections. A contract for the project adjustment has already been signed, with plans to refine technical solutions in the spring.

While the project was originally slated for completion by autumn 2026, the timeline has been extended, with current estimates aiming for completion by the end of 2027. To ensure safety during the winter months, Via Lietuva plans to widen the road zone, install a roadside, and use signal poles to separate traffic, which is intended to improve both safety and snow removal efficiency.
