Klaros Ancient Site hosts cultural gathering for writers and poets
The Klaros Ancient Site, an important oracle center alongside Delphi and Didim, hosted a gathering of poets, writers, and cultural figures from Izmir. The event took place at the site of the Temple of Apollo, where a nearly intact monumental portrait statue of Homer, dating back to the 2nd century BC, was previously discovered.
Associate Professor Onur Zunal, head of the Klaros excavations, provided information regarding ongoing archaeological work. Zunal noted that the discovery of the Homer statue serves as scientific evidence that the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey lived in the region of ancient Smyrna, modern-day Izmir. The event, supported by Saya Holding, included readings of poetry and stories, with plans for future gatherings at the site.
