Greece investigation into Giorgos Mazonakis death expands
Authorities are intensifying their investigation into the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who died on September 9, 2026, during a medical procedure in Kolonaki. Toxicological results obtained by the family's technical advisor, Giorgos Fitsialos, identified three substances in the singer's blood: propofol, midazolam, and flumazenil. The findings have led to conclusions of “pharmaceutical poisoning,” as the combination of high doses of interacting drugs can be fatal.
Investigators are currently tracing the origin of midazolam antidotes found at a medical office. These vials were traced back to the DEMO pharmaceutical company and were originally supplied to Euroclinic, a large private hospital in Athens. Authorities are examining whether the anesthesiologist involved removed the substances from the clinic without authorization.
Parallel to the medical inquiry, a financial investigation is underway involving the two doctors implicated in the case. Authorities are scrutinizing bank accounts in Lithuania and other European countries, despite claims from a 58-year-old doctor that he holds no foreign accounts. Additionally, one of the doctors reportedly suspended her professional activities one day after Mazonakis' death and faces public debts exceeding 100,000 euros.
Amidst the legal proceedings, Mazonakis' mother, Kleio Mazonaki, has publicly called for justice, expressing profound grief over the loss of her son.
