KLM receives first Airbus A350 to modernize fleet

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 at Amsterdam-Schiphol, marking a significant step in its long-term fleet renewal program. The new wide-body aircraft is designed to be more fuel-efficient, offering approximately 25% lower fuel consumption and a 40% smaller noise footprint compared to previous generations.

The aircraft features a 331-seat configuration, including 34 World Business Class suites, 26 Premium Comfort seats, and 271 Economy seats. It is equipped with Rolls-Royce engines and Airbus’s Airspace cabin technology, which includes enhanced lighting and high-speed satellite connectivity. The A350 is scheduled to begin commercial service on routes to Toronto, followed by flights to Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, and Zanzibar.

In addition to the new aircraft arrival, KLM announced updates for its upcoming Northern hemisphere winter season, running from October 25 to March 27. This includes the resumption of flights to Kigali and Entebbe, the latter of which had been suspended due to Ebola-related travel restrictions. The airline also plans to resume services to Dubai, Riyadh, and Dammam during this period.
