Airbus A350 development and KLM fleet integration

Overview

Airbus is progressing with its A350 aircraft programs, including the A350F freighter and passenger models. The A350F freighter is tentatively scheduled for its first flight in the third week of September, with deliveries aimed for late 2027 or 2028 following previous program delays.

Simultaneously, KLM is preparing for the arrival of its first Airbus A350-900, nicknamed ‘De Nachtwacht’ or ‘The Night Watch’. Following simulator training for cabin crew, the aircraft completed a 94-minute maiden test flight over southern France on September 4, 2026.

KLM plans to begin commercial operations with the aircraft on the Amsterdam Schiphol to Toronto Pearson route on October 23, 2026. Due to regulatory interpretation changes regarding new seating, the airline noted the aircraft may initially operate with an empty business class cabin.
