KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 fire investigation underway after five fatalities

Basarnas has officially ended active monitoring of the KMP Mutiara Sentosa 2 fire incident in the waters north of Madura Island, East Java. Following seven days of operations, authorities reported no further signs of victims or the vessel. The final manifest data confirmed that of the 238 people on board, 233 survived and five people died.

The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Community representatives have called for the investigation to be conducted thoroughly to prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation has announced a comprehensive audit of the safety management system of the ship's operator, PT Atosim Lampung Pelayaran.
