Knorr-Bremse and China Railway partner on digital rail technology

Knorr-Bremse and the China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) have signed a letter of intent to establish the ‘China Freight Cooperation Program’. This agreement expands a 20-year relationship into a comprehensive technology partnership aimed at advancing digital rail solutions.

The collaboration focuses on three primary technological areas: digitalization, driver assistance systems, and braking technologies. Key objectives include the development of digital train architectures, predictive maintenance, condition monitoring for freight wagons, and digital automatic couplings.

These innovations are intended to support China’s economic and sustainability strategy of shifting more freight traffic to rail. The program seeks to meet the increasing demand for longer, heavier, and more intelligent freight trains by utilizing data-driven models to improve safety, efficiency, and performance within the Chinese rail infrastructure.
