Kobylanka bans electric scooters on Lake Miedwie promenade

The municipal council of Kobylanka in Poland voted unanimously to forbid electric scooters on the three‑metre‑wide promenade that runs alongside Lake Miedwie, the country’s fifth‑largest lake. Councilors said the narrow path and the high speed of the scooters created unsafe conditions for pedestrians, especially children, and disrupted the recreational use of the area.

The new regulation will be enforced by the gmina guard with support from the police, and fines of up to 5,000 zł will be imposed for violations. Local officials noted that similar bans have already been introduced in other Polish towns such as Sopot, Białystok and Świnoujście, and they expect more municipalities to adopt comparable measures.

Residents and tourists had complained about scooters travelling at excessive speeds and ignoring traffic rules, prompting the council’s decision, which was praised by a road‑safety expert as a “great idea.”
