Kocaeli completes bridge assembly for Başiskele Koridor Project
The D-130 highway Başiskele Corridor Project in Kocaeli has finished installing the girders for nine bridges, totaling 155 prefabricated sections. Using a single-stage geofoam fill technique, the project set a world record and saved roughly 350 million TL. With an investment of about 2 billion TL, construction has reached 82 % physical completion. Five bridges are already in service, while the remaining four are undergoing final works. The corridor will provide a continuous 16‑km high‑capacity route, featuring nine bridges, seven culverts and two pedestrian overpasses, and is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on the D-130 corridor. Additional works include road widening, drainage, and the installation of 479 fore‑piles to mitigate landslide risk. The municipality projects that the completed infrastructure will improve safety and reduce travel times for motorists using the route.
