Kocaeli expands sports infrastructure for 2026 Para Swimming Championships

Kocaeli is expanding its sports infrastructure through new international hosting commitments and local facility developments. The city will host the 2026 European Para Swimming Championships at the Gebze Olympic Swimming Pool from September 7–12, 2026. This event is considered a critical milestone for national athletes aiming for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

In addition to international preparations, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has begun construction on a new sports complex in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet neighborhood of Kartepe. Spanning over 8,500 square meters, the facility will include a synthetic grass football pitch, a futsal court, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a fitness area. The complex is designed to support various age groups and sports disciplines, featuring social amenities such as a cafe and seating areas.
