Kocaeli implements 24/7 electronic monitoring for heavy‑vehicle traffic on D‑100 and D‑130
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality is deploying a Gabari Violation Detection System to monitor heavy‑vehicle traffic on the D‑100 and D‑130 highways. The system will operate continuously, using cameras and plate‑recognition technology to detect trucks and trailers that enter prohibited corridors. Drivers receive a warning on digital message signs; a second violation triggers an electronic fine. Installation points cover four main corridors: the Derince Liman‑Işıklar to D‑100/Okyanus Sokak intersection, the D‑100 Istanbul‑direction stretch between Yahya Kaptan Kanal Sokak and the governor’s office, and two D‑130 sections near Yalova and Istanbul.
Beyond enforcement, the system records vehicle types, passage counts and route‑specific traffic volumes, supplying data for future transport planning and road‑maintenance decisions. The initiative aims to reduce congestion caused by heavy loads, protect infrastructure and improve overall traffic flow in Turkey’s key industrial and port city.
