Kocaeli lifeguard teams rescue 87 people from drowning in a week
Between 28 June and 5 July, KOSKEM lifeguard units operating under the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality rescued 87 individuals who were at risk of drowning along Kocaeli’s Black Sea coast. The rescues were distributed across Bayramoğlu (32), Cebeci (27), Kumcağız (16), Kerpe (5), Darıca (4), Bağırganlı (2) and Ereğli Kumyalı (1). Including earlier incidents since the start of the summer season, the total number of people saved by Kocaeli teams reached 153.
In the neighbouring Sakarya province, the municipal fire department’s “Life Team” intervened on the Karasu, Kaynarca and Kocaali beaches, rescuing 12 swimmers from drowning and responding to six incidents involving missing children over the same period. Combined, the two provinces recorded 99 rescue operations during the week.
