Kocaeli Lifeguard Unit KOSKEM Rescues 33 Swimmers in First Week

KOSKEM (Kocaeli Sahilleri Su Kazaları Engelleme Merkezi), operating under the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality since 2005, began the 2024 beach season on 13 June. Between 13 June and 21 June the teams patrolled 13 beaches on the Black Sea and Marmara coasts, working seven days a week.

During that first week the lifeguards rescued 33 citizens who were in danger of drowning. The highest number of interventions occurred at Bayramoğlu beach (20 rescues), followed by Darıca (4 rescues) and three rescues each at Cebeci, Seyrek and Bağırganlı. Authorities highlighted the importance of swimming only in monitored areas, obeying flag warnings and staying away from risky zones.

The rescue effort underscores the role of municipal‑run safety services in preventing water accidents along Turkey’s coastlines.
