Kocaeli's Kuruçeşme Central Mosque construction reaches 54% completion

Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi is rebuilding the Kuruçeşme Merkez Camii in Izmit after the previous building was demolished as a risky structure. As of mid‑July 2026 the physical realization rate has risen to 54 %. Exterior walls and internal partition walls are finished, and work on façade insulation and lime coating is underway. In the basement, suspended ceilings, plaster work and tile flooring in ablution areas continue, alongside simultaneous mechanical and electrical installations.

When the project is completed it will occupy 2,075 m² of built area with an 871 m² base seating area, allowing 1,091 worshippers at once. The complex will also include a 165‑person multi‑purpose hall, a Quran school, a main prayer hall for 492, a mahfil level for 153, a women’s section, facilities for the disabled and a 14 m² fountain in the courtyard.
