Kocaeli municipal construction projects

In mid‑July 2026 the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality reported that the reconstruction of the Kuruçeşme Central Mosque in Izmit had reached 54 % completion. Exterior walls and internal partitions were finished, while façade insulation, lime coating, suspended ceilings, plaster work and tile flooring in the ablution areas continued alongside mechanical and electrical installations.

A week later, on 27 July 2026, the municipality announced that work on the Kocaeli Social Life Center was 60 % complete. Steel structures and the observation tower were installed, and a range of facilities—including a conservatory, language academy, library, gastronomy workshops, natural‑life museum, digital broadcast studios, entrepreneurship centre and civil‑society spaces—were under simultaneous development. Exterior steelwork, façade panels, glass, elevators and roof work were near completion, with interior finishes progressing across the complex.

Both projects remain under the oversight of Mayor Tahir Büyükakın and illustrate the continued expansion of public infrastructure in Kocaeli throughout July 2026.
