Kochi crash: Four arrested after Mini Cooper kills three students

Four individuals have been arrested following a high-speed Mini Cooper crash in Nedumbassery, near Kochi, which resulted in the deaths of three 21-year-old students. The victims, identified as Iyas, Devika, and Gopika, were riding a scooter when they were struck from behind by the luxury vehicle.

Police have charged the driver, 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev, with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators believe Sajeev was driving under the influence of alcohol and was traveling at high speeds; social media videos previously showed him driving at over 200 kmph. Following the collision, witnesses reported that Sajeev dismissively told local residents that his father would ‘handle everything.’

Three additional accomplices—Ninav, Ameer, and Joel—have also been arraigned for allegedly abetting the offense. Authorities stated the group had been consuming alcohol at bars in Ernakulam before the incident. The Mini Cooper involved was a birthday gift to Sajeev from his mother.
