Škoda Octavia vRS sets speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats

In August 2011, a specially modified Škoda Octavia vRS set a speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA. The vehicle achieved an official average speed of 365.45 km/h (approximately 227 mph) across two runs, as recognized by the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA).

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the vRS performance line, Škoda UK collaborated with Revo Technik to transform a standard journalist press car into a high-performance machine. While maintaining the original engine block, pistons, and crankshaft to comply with Production Supercharged category rules, the team installed a larger Garrett turbocharger and upgraded injection, intake, and exhaust systems, boosting output to over 600 horsepower.

Key modifications included the installation of a manual gearbox from a GreenLine model to utilize longer gear ratios, enhanced cooling, and significant weight reduction. The car featured aerodynamic wheel covers, a lowered suspension, and a parachute mounted on the rear to assist with deceleration, as the front brakes were removed to reduce weight.
