Nioh 3 releases first major DLC expansion Hell Rising

Koei Tecmo Games has released ‘Hell Rising’ (Keian Jigokuhen), the first major DLC expansion for the action RPG Nioh 3. The expansion introduces a new open-field setting in Edo during the year 1651, following the protagonist Takechiyo as he travels through time to witness the aftermath of his own reign.

Key features of the DLC include a new weapon archetype, the ‘Hoko & Shield’ (spear and shield) set, available for both Samurai and Ninja playstyles. Players can also access a new high-difficulty mode called ‘Enlightened One’s Journey’ and engage with the ‘Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls,’ which provide customizable combat arenas with special modifiers.

The narrative incorporates historical elements, featuring characters such as the swordsman Yagyu Jubei and Spanish envoys. In conjunction with the release, an apparel collaboration with EDWIN has been launched, featuring themed clothing. A second DLC, ‘Amakusa Rebellion,’ is currently in development.
