Kogi State halts chieftaincy installation and addresses highway concerns

The Kogi State Government has ordered an immediate halt to the planned installation of a new Seriki Hausa in Oworo Land. The directive, issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, follows a meeting with stakeholders including the Bajana of Obajana and the Olu of Oworo. Permanent Secretary Eniola Enimola stated the suspension was necessary because the process failed to follow established due process and to prevent potential breakdowns of law and order. The status quo on the traditional stool will be maintained until the matter is resolved.

Separately, the Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfe, Alhaji Saidu Akawu Salihu, has called for federal intervention to address deteriorating conditions on the Lokoja-Abuja highway. During a visit to the Federal Ministry of Works in Lokoja, the monarch highlighted critical sections between Lokoja and Abaji that require urgent repairs to prevent accidents and traffic gridlock. The acting Federal Controller of Works, Owoniya Bankole, acknowledged the issues, noting that delays in roadwork were partly due to the decision to convert the highway from asphalt to concrete pavement.
