Lokoja-Abuja highway infrastructure concerns

Overview

The Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfe, Dr. Alhaji Saidu Akawu Salihu, has called for urgent intervention from the Federal Ministry of Works to repair the deteriorating Lokoja-Abuja Federal Highway. Following a resolution by the Traditional Council, the monarch visited the Ministry in Lokoja to identify critical sections requiring immediate attention, including stretches between Chikara and Abaji, Aseni and Omoko, the Idu Bridge, and the Koton Karfe diversion.

Salihu warned that the road conditions are causing economic hardship, severe gridlock, and increased risks of fatal accidents. In response to these concerns, the acting Federal Controller of Works, Owoniya Bankole, acknowledged the issues and noted that delays in roadwork were partly due to the decision to convert the highway from asphalt to concrete pavement.
