Kolkata Braces for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms as IMD Issues Alerts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall across Kolkata and several South Bengal districts over the next four days, noting cyclonic circulations over North Bangladesh and North‑East Bihar and a moisture‑laden trough from Haryana to Assam. An orange alert has been issued for South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore, while a yellow alert covers Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Birbhum and other districts. Gusty winds of 30‑40 km/h and thunderstorms are expected, with heavy rain likely on Thursday, the day of the Jagannath Rath Yatra, potentially disrupting the celebrations. Similar conditions are forecast for North Bengal districts, with further rain expected later in the week. Residents are advised to stay updated on the evolving weather situation.
