Kolkata EM Bypass adopts new yellow and black road infrastructure

The appearance of road infrastructure in Kolkata is undergoing a visual change, with the Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass transitioning from blue-and-white dividers and barricades to a yellow, black, and white color scheme. This follows a similar color change previously implemented in the Dharmatala area.

The shift to yellow and black is intended to improve visibility. Due to the high contrast between these colors, they remain easily detectable under various lighting conditions and weather patterns, a practice commonly used in global traffic management to enhance safety.

Alongside these infrastructure updates, Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul has emphasized stricter enforcement regarding city cleanliness. The administration has signaled a crackdown on littering, sidewalk encroachment, and illegal parking, with new regulations introducing fines for public nuisance and improper waste disposal.
