Kolkata land dispute murders: father, son killed; mother critical

On 21 July in the New Town suburb of Kolkata, police say a land‑ownership dispute turned violent when a group wielding sharp weapons attacked the Mistry family. The victims were 55‑year‑old Muzafar Mistry (also known as Mona) and his 26‑year‑old son Bapi Mistry, both of whom were pronounced dead at a local hospital. Their wife was left seriously injured and remains in intensive care.

Police in the Bidhannagar precinct detained several suspects and launched an investigation, noting the dispute had centred on a plot of land in the Patharghata area that the Mistry family had opposed. The incident prompted heightened police presence in the neighbourhood to prevent further unrest.

The case is being examined as a double homicide linked to the ongoing land conflict, with authorities conducting post‑mortem examinations and continuing to question those in custody.
