Overview

On 21 July, a violent land-ownership dispute in the New Town suburb of Kolkata resulted in the deaths of 55-year-old Muzafar Mistry and his 26-year-old son, Bapi Mistry. According to police, a group using sharp weapons attacked the Mistry family over a plot of land in the Patharghata area. The victims' wife sustained serious injuries and was placed in intensive care.

Authorities in the Bidhannagar precinct detained several suspects and launched an investigation into the double homicide. Following the attack, police increased their presence in the neighborhood to prevent further unrest while conducting post-mortem examinations and questioning those in custody.
