Kolkata Police announces major security plan for Durga Puja

Kolkata Police has announced extensive security and management measures for the upcoming Durga Puja festival. To ensure public safety and order, approximately 10,000 police personnel will be deployed, supported by 21,000 temporary home guards and NCC cadets.

Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda held a review meeting with puja committees to emphasize strict adherence to safety regulations. Key directives include the implementation of separate entry and exit points at pandals to manage crowds, as well as contingency planning for heavy rainfall. Organizers have also been advised to use the digital ‘Sahaj’ portal to streamline the permit process for the roughly 3,000 sanctioned events.

Traffic management plans involve designating one-way routes, specific parking zones, and road closures to facilitate pedestrian movement. Additionally, officials are coordinating with administrative bodies to ensure timely road repairs, improved drainage, and better street lighting around festival sites.
