Security and management for Durga Puja celebrations

Overview

Authorities in Odisha and West Bengal are implementing extensive security, traffic, and digital measures for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

In Cuttack, the district administration announced that festivities will be live-streamed for the first time via official YouTube and website channels to accommodate elderly and remote devotees. The Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissionerate Police has established a security and traffic management plan featuring round-the-clock control rooms and specialized units to manage crowds and processions.

In Kolkata, police officials have planned the deployment of approximately 10,000 police personnel, supported by 21,000 home guards and NCC cadets. Management strategies include the use of the ‘Sahaj’ digital portal for event permits, the establishment of separate entry and exit points at pandals, and specific traffic protocols such as one-way routes and designated parking zones. Coordination with administrative bodies is also underway to address drainage, street lighting, and road repairs.
