Konaković rejects new electoral units for Croats in BiH

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, political tensions are rising ahead of the October 4 elections. Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković has rejected proposals to create a new electoral unit specifically for electing the Croat member of the Presidency. Konaković argued that such moves are unrealistic and stated that Bosniaks are the group that 'suffers' under current political pressures. He also criticized a resolution from the Croatian Parliament regarding the status of Croats in BiH, labeling it an interference in the country's sovereignty.

Separately, political scientist Ivan Pepić has proposed 'political abstention' as a strategic response to prevent Bosniak political dominance. This concept suggests that if Croats elect their own Presidency member, they should refuse to take office until electoral reforms are implemented to prevent one ethnic group from imposing representatives on others. This proposal aims to create political crisis as a means of forcing structural change.
