Konecta R workers face uncertain future in Calabria
Italian Member of Parliament Anna Laura Orrico, representing the Movimento 5 Stelle, has filed a parliamentary inquiry addressed to Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso regarding the uncertain future of former Abramo workers now employed by Konecta R.
The workers are currently facing a period of redundancy (cassa integrazione) that is set to expire on December 31, with no clear professional prospects. Orrico criticized the lack of stability despite previous promises from Calabria Governor Roberto Occhiuto regarding industrial reconversion and a transition to digitalization services.
The digitalization project, which aimed to dematerialize clinical records for Calabrian health authorities (Asp), was managed by Konecta R through Tim and the Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato. Despite receiving tens of millions of euros in public funding, the project reportedly failed due to a lack of sufficient material to digitize. This shortage of work led to the exhaustion of funds and the subsequent reliance on social safety nets.
