Konecta labor disputes in Italy

Overview

The call center operator Konecta is facing significant labor instability and employment uncertainty across multiple Italian regions.

In Calabria, the crisis involving Konecta R has escalated. Following a failed digitalization project intended to dematerialize clinical records for Calabrian health authorities—which reportedly exhausted tens of millions of euros in public funding—the employment situation has worsened. Confial Calabria secretary Fabio Tomaino reported that 74 precarious workers are currently without contracts, while up to 654 employees are affected by extraordinary redundancy funds (cassa integrazione).

Due to the lack of clarity regarding the project's recovery plan and the management of public funds, Tomaino announced that a formal complaint will be filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office. Political representatives, including Michele Laurenzano of Italia Viva, are urging both regional and national governments to provide a stable industrial plan focused on permanent orders and IT services to prevent further job losses in a region facing high unemployment and depopulation.

Simultaneously, Konecta is experiencing disputes in Tuscany, specifically at a site in Livorno. Following a reduction in business volume from TIM, the site faces potential closure. Approximately 76 employees, primarily women on part-time contracts, are experiencing income reductions of up to 80 percent under solidarity contracts that expire in late 2026.
