Konfederacja proposes abolishing Poland's deposit return system

The Konfederacja political party has submitted a legislative project aimed at abolishing the deposit return system in Poland. Proponents of the bill argue that the current mechanism is “fundamentally flawed” and criticize the government for rushing the implementation without sufficient consultation with local governments, retailers, and consumer organizations.

Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska has strongly rejected the proposal, stating that the bill must be “quickly rejected and must quickly land in the trash.” She characterized the move as irresponsible toward the state, citizens, and entrepreneurs. The Minister also dismissed criticisms regarding the efficiency of the system, accusing the opposition of manipulating data regarding unreturned deposits.
