Konkola Copper Mines hits 10,000-tonne monthly copper production milestone

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) achieved a production milestone in July, producing 10,000 tonnes of copper. This output marks an increase from previous monthly levels, which typically ranged between 8,000 and 9,000 tonnes. KCM CEO Malcolm Mewett noted that this monthly output accounts for more than 11 percent of Zambia’s 2026 monthly copper production target of approximately 90,000 tonnes.

In recognition of this achievement, KCM has committed K5.8 million toward a reward initiative, distributing gift vouchers to employees and business partner workers. The Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) welcomed the decision, stating it serves as meaningful recognition that could motivate improved performance. However, the union emphasized that increased productivity must be accompanied by worker safety and improved working conditions.
