Konnor Griffin begins rehab assignment with Altoona Curve
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin has begun a rehabilitation assignment with the Double-A Altoona Curve, marking his first game appearance since early July. Griffin went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts in a 7-2 loss to the Erie Sea Wolves.
Griffin has been sidelined since July 6 due to a torn sagittal band in his left ring finger, an injury often referred to as “boxer’s knuckle.” The injury required him to be placed on the 60-day injured list to prevent permanent hand damage. This follows a previous stint on the injured list for a right elbow strain earlier this season.
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington stated that the team will evaluate Griffin on Monday to determine his next destination, considering factors such as weather and pitching matchups. Griffin is eligible to be activated from the injured list on September 4.
