Konstantin Sokolov named chair of $200 million US TRIPP+ fund for South‑Caucasus trade corridor

The U.S. State Department has appointed Russian‑born American investor Konstantin Sokolov as chairman of the new TRIPP+ enterprise fund, a $201 million financing vehicle aimed at developing the "Trump Route" trade corridor in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. The fund will make loans, equity investments and grants in transportation, energy infrastructure and critical mineral projects across eight countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Sokolian, a major shareholder in Armenia’s largest telecom operator Viva Armenia and a donor who contributed over $350 million to former President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project, has not previously held a government position. U.S. officials said the initiative seeks to promote private‑sector growth while Vice President JD Vance described it as a "historic transformation" for the region. Critics note the potential conflict of interest, given Sokolov’s business stakes in sectors the fund will target, and it remains unclear whether he will receive compensation for his role.
