Turkey experiences a spate of traffic accidents and safety incidents
A series of serious incidents occurred across Turkey in mid‑July. In Amasya's Merzifon district a double‑deck intercity bus overturned, injuring 46 people, including two seriously hurt. In Bursa's İznik district a coal‑laden truck lost control and crashed into a fuel station, killing a shopper and injuring the driver and a station employee. A fire broke out at a MOTAŞ maintenance workshop in Malatya, damaging five vehicles but causing no injuries. Separate road collisions left two people wounded in Elazığ, three injured in Adapazarı (Sakarya) after a van struck two motorcycles, and a child killed in a Merzifon car‑truck crash. Additional disruptions included a planned electricity shutdown affecting dozens of neighborhoods in İzmir and a temporary closure of the Ankara‑Konya highway for construction work. Authorities opened investigations into most crashes and imposed heavy fines on traffic violations, while emergency services responded rapidly to contain the fire and restore power.
