Koper Police oversight reveals failures after President Pirc Musar accident

An expert oversight report has revealed significant management failures within the Koper Police Administration following a traffic accident involving Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar in the Kastelec Tunnel. The report, commissioned by Acting Director General of Police Danijel Lorbek, states that there was a lack of leadership at all levels during the incident.

Key findings indicate that officers at the scene did not receive the necessary professional assistance required for investigating a serious accident involving a protected person. Specifically, no supervisor was present to provide expert guidance, and the uniformed police sector was not properly involved; the sector head reportedly received only a brief text message lacking relevant facts. Additionally, public relations support was not effectively deployed to assist officers with communication.

The report also highlights procedural deficiencies, including failures to meet deadlines for written documentation, improper completion of forms, and delays in notifying the prosecutor's office. These irregularities in accident recording have reportedly been noted previously.
