Korala road blockages halt over 150 containers at Nepal customs

Heavy rainfall, floods, landslides, and river erosion have caused significant damage to the Beni–Jomsom–Korala road, blocking trade from northern Korala. Damage has been reported at 46 different locations along the route.

More than 150 containers carrying goods imported from China are currently halted at the Nhechung Customs yard in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-4. While Bidur Chudal, head of the Mustang Customs Office, stated that customs clearance for 90 percent of these containers has been completed, the road blockages prevent them from reaching their destinations. This disruption follows the closure of the Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints, leaving Korala as a critical alternative route.

The blockage is impacting revenue collection, particularly for goods intended for the Dashain and Tihar festivals. Additionally, approximately 200 electric vehicles are unable to reach their destinations, with over 100 vehicles stuck at the Jomsom Bus Park for five days.
