Korea Baseball Organization cancels games following spectator heatstroke

A 23-year-old male spectator has been discharged from Kaesen University Gil Hospital after fainting during a professional baseball game at SSG Landers Field on August 4. Medical professionals determined that the syncope was caused by a temporary reduction in cerebral blood flow, triggered by a combination of extreme heat, dehydration, and the physical strain of standing.

Due to the ongoing record-breaking heatwave, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) cancelled all first and second-tier professional baseball games scheduled for August 5 and 6 to ensure the safety of both players and spectators.

Medical experts warned that high temperatures causing vasodilation combined with heavy sweating can lead to sudden drops in blood pressure, increasing the risk of fainting. They advised maintaining hydration and minimizing prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
