Korea Coast Guard seizes illegal fishing vessel near NLL

The Central Regional Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Navy, conducted a large-scale special crackdown on illegal fishing in the waters south of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea. During a two-day operation from October 10 to 11, authorities deployed 20 vessels to target foreign fishing boats during the autumn peak season.

The operation resulted in the seizure of one foreign fishing vessel and the expulsion of 91 other vessels from the area. Before the crackdown, approximately 200 illegal foreign vessels were reported in the NLL area, a number that decreased to around 150 following the enforcement action.

In recognition of their efforts, the Korea Coast Guard awarded special bonuses to several officers involved in the crackdown. Among those rewarded were six officers from the Central Regional Coast Guard for their roles in seizing eight illegal Chinese fishing boats and expelling 24 others during recent joint government enforcement actions.
