Korea Football Coaches Association calls for unity and reform

The Korea Football Coaches Association issued a statement calling for unity and field-centered reforms to address the current crisis in South Korean football. The association criticized the increasing trend of personal attacks and repetitive conflicts generated through broadcasts and individual YouTube channels, urging former players turned media personalities to focus on improving grassroots environments, such as youth and amateur football, rather than engaging in provocative debates.

The association also addressed the Professional Football Growth Committee, requesting that it balance diverse opinions from professionals who have actual field experience. They highlighted the importance of communication, citing the K-Football Innovation Committee’s recent listening sessions with players and coaches as a positive model.

Furthermore, the association defended regional (city and provincial) football clubs against criticism based solely on profitability. They argued these clubs provide public value by fostering local pride, contributing to regional economies, and serving as vital pipelines for developing youth talent that eventually reaches major European leagues. While acknowledging the need for transparent management due to taxpayer funding, they cautioned against labeling these clubs as inherently problematic.
