The South Korean football landscape is facing legal and structural challenges. The Supreme Court of Korea recently ruled that a Korea Football Association (KFA) regulation prohibiting individuals with a one-year or longer suspension for violent behavior from registering as coaches is invalid. While the court upheld the initial disciplinary suspension of a coach involved in a 2022 incident, it found the registration ban unconstitutional, stating it “excessively restricting the freedom of occupation” because the KFA oversees nearly all football competitions in the country.

In response to broader systemic issues, the Korea Football Coaches Association has called for unity and field-centered reforms. The association criticized the rise of personal attacks and provocative debates on media and YouTube channels, urging media personalities to focus on grassroots environments like youth and amateur football. Additionally, the association advocated for the protection of regional football clubs, arguing they provide public value and serve as talent pipelines despite criticisms regarding profitability.
