Korea Minting releases limited Hangeul Day 100th anniversary medals
The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation has released a limited edition of ‘Hangeul Day 100th Anniversary Commemorative Medals’ to celebrate the centenary of the establishment of Hangeul Day. In collaboration with the National Hangeul Museum, the collection features designs based on historical Hangeul materials.
The set includes two types of medals: 100 gold medals (Au999, 32mm, 15.55g) and 500 silver medals (Ag999, 40mm, 31.1g). The front of the medals depicts King Sejong the Great alongside the text of the ‘Hunminjeongeum Eonhaebon,’ a Korean translation of the original script. The reverse side utilizes the ‘Hangeul Syllable Table’ (also known as the ‘Banjeolpyo’), a 19th-century educational tool used to teach the alphabet through visual associations.
The medals are available for purchase through the corporation’s online shopping mall. Additionally, they will be featured as part of the special exhibition ‘1926 Infinite Takeoff’ at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History from October 2 until February 9 next year.
