Koriun Inversiones investors threaten protests over seized funds

Investors and partners of Koriun Inversiones in Honduras are threatening national strikes and widespread protests across seven departments to demand the return of seized funds. The affected parties expressed dissatisfaction with the Office of Seized Asset Administration (OABI) and the Public Ministry, claiming that dialogue has failed to yield satisfactory results.

Simultaneously, uncertainty is growing due to a legislative reform proposed in the National Congress. The initiative seeks to allow the Public Ministry to use seized resources to combat crime. This has raised concerns among Koriun investors, as the use of these funds could complicate the restitution process if the company's former manager, Iván Velásquez, is eventually acquitted. If an acquittal occurs, the State would be legally obligated to return more than 353 million lempiras.

The threatened protests could impact several regions, including Cortés, Santa Bárbara, Copán, El Paraíso, Choluteca, Olancho, and Colón.
