Koriun Inversiones investor fraud and fund dispute

Overview

The Koriun Inversiones case involves a Ponzi scheme identified by the Honduran Public Ministry in April 2025. The unauthorized entity reportedly promised weekly returns of up to 5 percent to approximately 35,000 investors. During investigations, authorities seized over L358 million in cash.

Following the seizure, victims organized under a National Commission held a peaceful demonstration in Juticalpa, Olancho, demanding answers from the government and the Public Ministry. Protesters warned of escalating demonstrations to Tegucigalpa if no solution was provided.

As the situation progressed, investors and partners threatened national strikes and widespread protests across seven departments, including Cortés, Santa Bárbara, Copán, El Paraíso, Choluteca, Olancho, and Colón. The unrest stems from dissatisfaction with the Office of Seized Asset Administration (OABI) and the Public Ministry regarding the return of funds.

Further uncertainty has emerged due to a proposed legislative reform in the National Congress. The initiative would allow the Public Ministry to use seized resources to combat crime. Investors fear this could complicate the restitution process, particularly if the company’s former manager, Iván Velásquez, is acquitted, which would legally obligate the State to return more than 353 million lempiras.
