Kosovo announces plans for National Energy Research Institute

Kosovo is planning the establishment of a National Energy Research Institute to strengthen the country's capacity for research, innovation, and informed policy-making regarding the energy transition.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that the institute is intended to provide institutional continuity, ensuring that expertise and knowledge gained from various projects are preserved rather than lost. The facility is proposed to be located at the Innovation and Training Park (ITP) in Prizren, leveraging the city's student population and existing infrastructure.

The concept for the institute was developed with technical support from the German government through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The initiative aims to create a space for engineers and researchers, including those in the diaspora, to contribute to Kosovo's energy sector by conducting necessary measurements, calculations, and strategic planning for future infrastructure projects.
