Kosovo energy transition and environmental initiatives

Overview

Kosovo is advancing initiatives to support its energy transition and environmental policy through community engagement and institutional development.

In Prizren, the ‘Green Horizons’ project hosted a training session titled ‘Advocacy in Inclusive Environmental Policies and Green Transition’. The program targeted youth, activists, and educators to strengthen skills in climate change advocacy, energy efficiency, and circular economy processes.

Building on these efforts, Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced plans to establish a National Energy Research Institute. Proposed to be located at the Innovation and Training Park in Prizren, the institute aims to provide institutional continuity and foster research and innovation. Developed with technical support from the German government via GIZ, the facility is intended to serve as a hub for engineers and researchers to assist in strategic planning for future energy infrastructure.
